At 830 metres high, the hill is about 5° cooler than the lowlands. The peak offers exhilarating panoramic views of the island, while in the evening, the shimmering lights of the harbour and glowing lights of the city infuse it with an awesome display of colours. The ersatz English style bungalows and cottages scattered in the hill tell part of the history of the precinct, one of which was of the proclivity of English administrators to take to the hill for respite from the sweltering tropical heat. There is a food court, quaint café, hotel, Hindu temple and a mosque. The puller is the new and upgraded funicular railway that journeys up and down the hill. The original link was built in 1923, based on the Swiss model.
